The Pre-Admission Review team processes the necessary paperwork for anyone who is requesting admission to a Medicaid Certified Nursing Facility. Over 11,000 requests are processed in a year.
Pre-Admission Review originates from the Social Security Act nursing home reform of 1987. Pre-Admission Review is mandated by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Aging.
There are three types of reviews. These are:
- PASRR – Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review: Screening for serious mental illness and/or mental retardation/developmental disabilities. This is to determine whether a nursing facility is appropriate and whether specialized services are needed.
- LTCC – Long Term Care Consultations: provides anyone seeking admission to a Medicaid certified nursing facility with information about options available to meet their long-term care needs and factors to consider when making long-term care decisions.
- LOC – Level of Care: Determines a person’s physical, mental, and social/emotional status to determine whether he/she requires an Intermediate or a Skilled Level of Care. A person must meet an Intermediate or Skilled Level of Care for admission to a nursing facility. The LOC process also initiates vendor payment to the nursing facility.
If you’re on the staff of a nursing facility and are confused by a specific PASRR/LOC situation, we can help! Several scenarios are available for you to review.
