Despite winter weather, 2013 Forum on Aging sets new attendance record

"Neither snow nor rain..."

Forum on Aging crowd
Even without cooperation from Mother Nature, Forum on Aging set a new attendance record in 2013!

Despite forecasted freezing rain on the first day, and six inches of snow on the second day, the 2013 Forum on Aging went off without a hitch. In fact, the event set a record with 620 in attendance over two days.  The opportunity to earn up to 10 continuing education credit hours is a big draw for area social workers, nurses, nursing home administrators, and other professionals.  And thanks to the event`s sponsors, the two-day conference continues to be an excellent value for participants.

Workshops featured topics of relevance to today`s Aging Network professionals, including:

  • An intensive workshop on Alzheimer`s Disease
  • Overview and update on Integrated Care Delivery System
  • Understanding creative responses to challenging behaviors
  • Training on using motivational enhancement skills
  • Discussion of common medication-related problems in an aging population

COA Annual Meeting

Day-two of Forum on Aging included COA`s 42nd annual meeting and awards celebration. Council on Aging CEO Suzanne Burke presented highlights from COA`s 2012 annual report and COA Board Chairman William Thornton, Jr. presented the annual President`s Award.

The 2013 recipient of the President`s Award was Dr. Jane Straker of Oxford. Along with her colleagues at Miami University`s Scripps Gerontology Center, Dr. Straker has provided many years of research, analysis, and scholarship that had helped Council on Aging and numerous other organizations understand and plan for the needs of our aging population. Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Hartmann also presented awards to caregivers, volunteers and professionals who work to make life better for older adults. Click here to read more about the award recipients.
