MyCare Ohio Updates - enrollment changes and upcoming education events
There’s a lot of news to report regarding MyCare Ohio, the state’s new managed care program for people who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. An estimated 20,000 individuals will be affected by MyCare Ohio in southwest Ohio.
Changes to MyCare Ohio enrollment timeline
Eligible residents of Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton and Warren counties will begin enrolling in the Medicaid portion of MyCare Ohio on June 1, 2014. Previously, the mandatory enrollment date was May 1. Those required to enroll in the program received a notification letter from the state in late December 2013.
Enrollment is mandatory for the Medicaid portion of the program. Enrollees may select a health plan to deliver their MyCare Ohio services from two choices: Aetna Better Health of Ohio or Molina Healthcare. The state will choose a plan for those who do not select one themselves. Anyone dissatisfied with that choice, can change it that by calling the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 800-324-8680.
Under the new enrollment timeline, people enrolled in the Medicaid portion of MyCare Ohio will have eight months (through December 2014) to decide which Medicare plan best suits their health care needs. That may be Aetna or Molina, or a person may choose to continue to use “traditional” Medicare (fee-for-service) or a Medicare Advantage Plan. Those who choose Aetna or Molina will have coordination and one main point of contact for all their health care, long-term care, and behavioral health services.
Beginning in January, 2015, individuals who have not yet selected a Medicare plan will be automatically enrolled in one of the MyCare Ohio plans (Aetna or Molina) to ensure the full coordination of their care.
MyCare Ohio is designed to coordinate people’s services for health care, long-term care, and behavioral health. The goals are to reduce costs and improve health outcomes by providing people with the right services in the right settings at the right times.
