March is National Social Work Month

There are more than 600,000 social workers in the US, and we have 113 Licensed Social Workers here at Council on Aging.

March is National Social Work Month, a time to celebrate the tenacity of social workers everywhere and their unique ability to forge solutions out of challenges. They confront some of the most challenging issues facing individuals, families, communities and society and forge solutions that help people reach their full potential and make our nation a better place to live.

According to the National Association of Social Workers, social workers help people increase their capacities for problem solving and coping, and they help them obtain needed resources, facilitate interactions between individuals and between people and their environments, make organizations responsible to people, and influence social policies. Social workers may work directly with clients addressing individual, family and community issues, or they may work at a systems level on regulations and policy development, or as administrators and planners of large social service systems.

Our social workers do this every day as they work with older adults, people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, and health systems and professionals to achieve our mission of helping individuals remain independent in their homes and communities.

A special thank you to our social workers and social workers everywhere!
