COA Senior Financial Analyst, Brian Van Arsdale

Council on Aging’s Senior Financial Analyst, Brian Van Arsdale, will receive the 2016 Public Administrator of the Year Award – Early Careerist, from the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.

The honor recognizes outstanding individuals for their work in the field of public administration including government, education, and the non-profit sector. The Early Careerist category recognizes individuals early in their career for demonstrating dedication and commitment to the ideals, ethics, and professionalism required to pursue a career in public administration and public service.

The award will be presented at a banquet April 22 at The Phoenix in Cincinnati.

Brian, 24, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business. He was hired as COA’s first financial analyst in January, 2014 and was promoted to his current position in October, 2014. During his time with COA, he has provided significant contributions, including:

  • developing a new financial reporting infrastructure and a well-documented budget and financial variance reporting system
  • financial analysis that has helped COA with forecasting and managing tax levy-funded programs that span multiple years
  • becoming the “go to” person for managers who need to know the financial implications and/or affordability of their decisions

In nominating him for the award, members of COA’s management team and his peers within the organization commended Brian for his critical thinking skills, leadership, ability to foster collaboration between departments, provision of detailed and accurate analysis, and his commitment to COA’s mission.

“Everything Brian does is aimed at helping us to be more strategic as an organization,” said Council on Aging's President/CEO Suzanne Burke. “He promotes the highest standards and stewardship in his position. Recognizing that many of our programs are funded by tax levies, Brian is always acting as a steward of the public funds.”
