Caring for a child with special needs creates a unique set of challenges and rewards. Balancing the task of caring for a child with special needs with the demands of everyday life can be especially stressful on a parent or guardian. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provides families with a variety of resources to assist with caring for a child with special needs, including:

  • The Complex Care Center provides inpatient and outpatient management of children and young adults with chronic, complex medical, developmental and mental health conditions. They offer help with everything from treatment and coordination of care to help with finding and accessing healthcare, financial resources and community services and supports.
  • The Special Needs Resource Directory is a searchable online directory created by The Complex Care Center and supported by The Family Resource Center,  which serves as a comprehensive connection to resources such as education, service providers, support groups and more.
  • Special Connections is an online community for families and caregivers of children with special needs where they can find support and information from other caregivers and guardians who are facing similar challenges.
  • Many local organizations dealing with specialized needs offer support groups for family members, patients and caregivers. The Special Needs Resource Directory offers a listing and information on a variety of support groups available in our region.

You can also find caregiver support information and resources for all ages through the Council on Aging Resource Directory.
