Medicare benefits now part of MyCare Ohio

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

The final phase of MyCare Ohio – Ohio’s managed care program for people who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid – went into effect on January 1.  In this phase, Ohioans enrolled in MyCare Ohio may now have their Medicare benefits included in the same managed care plan that provides their Medicaid benefits.  This was the original intention of MyCare Ohio – to coordinate participants’ Medicare and Medicaid services together under one health insurance plan, allowing for more coordinated delivery of care.

Although MyCare Ohio encourages participants to use the same health plan for their Medicare and Medicaid services, participants do have the option to keep their Medicare services separate. (Medicaid services must be delivered through MyCare Ohio only). Participants who wish to keep their Medicare benefits separate must call the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at (800) 324-8680.  Participants who did nothing automatically had their Medicare benefits included in their MyCare Ohio plan as of January 1.
