Each year, Ohio and the nation recognize May as Older Americans Month to celebrate our elders as vital members of society who continue to grow, thrive, and contribute. Ohio’s 2016 Older Americans Month theme “Aging. It’s Everybody’s Business,” reminds us that everybody can play a role in promoting opportunities for the elderly to grow, thrive, and contribute.

The Ohio Department of Aging is encouraging Ohioans to get involved and make aging their business through a variety of activities including:

  • Taking a pledge to make aging your business
  • Participating in a social media campaign and displaying signs that proclaim why and how you make aging your business
  • Taking advantage of or contributing to a variety of community-based activities that promote volunteerism, mentoring, workforce opportunities, wellness and more

You can find instructions and more detail about these activities and other resources to help make aging your business by clicking here.  And, read a special Older Americans Month guest column about ageism from Council on Aging's VP of Communications, Laurie Petrie.
