2024 General Election Resources for Voters

October 3, 2024

Election Day is Nov. 5, 2024! 

The deadline to register to vote in this election is Oct. 7, 2024.

Polls in Ohio are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Visit your county board of elections website for the following information:

  • To see if you are registered to vote
  • To find out how to register to vote (deadline is Oct. 7)
  • To find your polling location
  • To find rules and hours for early and absentee voting

Absentee voting

In Ohio, any registered voter can use an absentee ballot to vote.

How do I get an absentee ballot?

You have two options:

  • Fill out an absentee ballot application online and download the PDF and print from your printer, or
  • Call your board of elections and request an application

How do I return my ballot?

  • You can return your ballot by mail or by dropping it off at your county board of elections office.
  • If you choose to return your ballot by mail, the United States Postal Service recommends that voters mail their completed ballots at least one week before the due date. 
  • Read the instructions carefully on how to mark and return your ballot.
Absentee ballot deadlines
  • Request ballot (received by): Oct. 29 close of business
  • Return ballot by mail (postmarked by): Nov 4
  • Return ballot in person: Nov. 5 by 7:30 p.m.

Early voting

Early voting for the state of Ohio begins on Oct. 8. Following are statewide early voting days and hours:

Week One of Voting (Oct. 8-11)
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each weekday (Tuesday through Friday)

Week Two of Voting (Oct. 14-18)
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each weekday (Monday through Friday)

Week Three of Voting (Oct. 21-27)
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each weekday (Monday through Friday)
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26
1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27

Week Four of Voting (Oct. 28 – Nov. 3)
7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday
7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday
7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2
1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3

Voting resources

  • VoteOhio.gov: Ohio Secretary of State elections and voting information.
  • VoteRiders Voter ID Help : VoteRiders is a non-partisan, non-profit organization with a mission to ensure that all citizens are able to exercise their freedom to vote. VoteRiders informs and helps citizens to secure their voter ID as well as inspires and supports organizations, local volunteers and communities to sustain voter ID education and assistance efforts.
  • VOTE411: A “one-stop shop” for election-related information providing nonpartisan information to the public with both general and state-specific information.
  • Nonprofit Vote: Helps nonprofit organizations engage the people they serve in voting and elections.
  • U.S. Vote Foundation: Absentee ballot request and voter registration services.
  • League of Women Voters of Ohio: The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. 
  • NAACP | A Vote for Democracy: Provides education on issues and how to vote.
  • Greater Cincinnati Voter Collaborative: Provides rides to the polls on election day or to the Board of Elections Office to drop off a ballot. Text RIDECINCY to (513) 281-9955, call (888) 858-3421 or visit the group’s website to request a ride.
