Partnership aims to connect older adults with behavioral health services
July 15, 2026
Feeling isolated, overwhelmed or less interested in the activities you once enjoyed can happen at any age – but older adults do not have to face those feelings alone. Senior Connections, a partnership between Council on Aging (COA) and Central Clinic Behavioral Health (CCBH), helps Hamilton County adults age 60+ build meaningful connections while gaining access to behavioral health support designed to improve quality of life.
According to state and local sources, behavioral health needs among Hamilton County older adults are substantial. State data show that nearly 18% of Ohioans age 65 and older have been diagnosed with depression, and regional health assessments consistently identify mental health as a significant unmet need. Older adults – especially those age 85 and older – are also at elevated risk for suicide, social isolation, anxiety, and other behavioral health challenges.
“Our goal is to help older adults access the specialized behavioral health services they need so they can experience the benefits of a supportive community and remain independent for as long as possible,” said Bob Weghorst, director of adult services at Central Clinic Behavioral Health.
Senior Connections can help older adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, social isolation, difficulty managing medications or a need for extra support during medical appointments. Services vary based on an individual’s needs and may include social activities, wellness education, personal growth in individual therapy, or one-on-one support through case management. Caregivers and family members may also be included when appropriate.
Funded by the Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board and the county’s senior services tax levy, the program began accepting referrals in February 2025, with many referrals coming from Hamilton County ESP. The partnership is ideal because COA care managers meet regularly with ESP clients and can notice signs that an individual might be a good fit for the program. A special intake process helps ESP clients prepare for therapy appointments and transportation support may be available through home52 Transportation. In addition to ESP clients, the program is open to Hamilton County residents age 60+ who would benefit from CCBH services. Central Clinic Behavioral Health assesses individuals to determine if they are appropriate for the program and can refer people to other services and providers in the community, if necessary. All forms of Ohio Medicaid are accepted. Community members may contact Central Clinic Behavioral Health directly to learn more. Community referrals can be made by calling (513) 558-5801.
