COA program helps Clinton County woman navigate at home

February 9, 2026

After a fall that required a stay in a rehabilitation facility, Janet struggled to move around her New Vienna home safely. Her biggest challenge was maintaining balance and additional falls were very possible. Her husband, Bill, reached out to Council on Aging (COA) for help.

A COA care manager visited their home and thoroughly explained community services and resources. That was when Bill and Janet learned about COA’s FastTrack Home program which provides in-home care services on a temporary basis easing the transition from hospital or nursing home to home.

Through the program, Janet and Bill received home modifications which made Janet’s everyday living easier and safer: a raised commode in the house’s main bathroom and an outside railing leading to their home’s entrance.

Bill is especially grateful for the railing which provides something for Janet to hold on to – even when he isn’t with her. “Once, I had to go back into the house, she lost her balance and fell backward,” Bill said. “Having the railing makes me feel so much more secure. It’s wonderful for getting in and out.”
