COA welcomes Gwen Brown as supervisor of the Specialized Recovery Services Program

Gwen BrownGwendolyn Brown joined COA in July, 2018 as supervisor of the Specialized Recovery Services Program (SRS). In this role, Gwen provides supervision and monitoring of performance and contractual compliance as well as performance management and coaching for nine recovery managers and a program assessor.

SRS is a Medicaid waiver program which was created to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and later expanded to include organ donor recipients and people with certain chronic health conditions.

Gwen’s prior experience makes her uniquely qualified to serve as a leader in this program. She has over 20 years of experience in social services, including specialization in mental health for people of all ages.

“SRS is a dynamic program,” said Kim Clark, Council on Aging’s vice president of program operations – Medicaid. “Gwen has experience with program development and is driven to meet the unique needs of clients served by the program.”   

Her professional background includes serving as a Community Care Manager for CareSource, where she provided care coordination and completed psycho-social member assessments, and conducted peer-to-peer audits. Gwen also served as an adjunct professor at Cincinnati State, teaching social work and sociology. In addition, Gwen was a Program Manager/Health Educator at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she performed 1:1 counseling, group therapy and led the Chronic Disease Self-Management (Healthy U) program.

Gwen has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati, where she was “student of the year.”
