Charitable Pharmacy simplifies access to free prescription medication

The cost of prescription medication can be a significant burden. Even people with coverage through Medicare Part D, the Affordable Care Act, or private insurance often have to make challenging but necessary sacrifices to be able to afford copays. Changes to a local resource are making it easier for the underinsured to receive vital medications.

The St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy provides free prescription medications and pharmacy services to qualifying residents of Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties. Qualification is determined when a patient’s prescription copays and their monthly expenses meet or exceed their income. The pharmacy has made these recent changes to simplify the certification process and improve their services:

  • Patients may now schedule certification appointments by calling one of their patient advocates.
  • Patients may complete certification on a walk-in basis on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 8:00am – 12:30pm.
  • Providers may now refer patients to the charitable pharmacy by faxing a referral form.
  • Patients may now benefit from free Medication Therapy Management services which include health screenings, medication use education, lifestyle education, and disease state monitoring led by a clinical pharmacist.
