Where can you turn for unbiased advice on long-term care planning, including Medicare and Medicaid, financial planning, and options for long-term care services? For five years now, Council on Aging has been offering the Own Your Future workshop with this goal in mind: bringing together experts to help retirement age adults understand the importance of planning ahead for long-term care needs and giving them the tools they need to get started on their own plan.
On October 11, our fifth Own Your Future workshop, held at the Sycamore Senior Center in Blue Ash, drew the largest crowd yet with 100 people registered to attend. Three expert speakers covered topics including estate and financial planning, Medicare and Medicaid, advance directives, and long-term care options. Each attendee received a toolkit to help them develop a long-term care plan of their own.
Through a survey completed at the end of the workshop, many attendees commented that they valued the information they received and had a better understanding of legal paperwork and terminology surrounding long-term care, including the difference between Power of Attorney and Durable Power of Attorney. Most gave the workshop top marks as excellent, with 95 percent of attendees saying the workshop was excellent or very good at broadening their understanding of long-term care planning.
Our next Own Your Future will be in fall of 2015, sign up for our e-newsletter to receive updates about upcoming workshops.
