Not long ago, I found myself in the Wilmington area for work and was looking for a good lunch. I stopped into Beaugard’s Southern Bar-B-Que as I remembered interviewing Marty Beaugard in 2020 highlighting his restaurant which supplied meals for the Comfort Meal Program. During the COVID-19 pandemic, COA provided “comfort meals” to older adults to address food insecurity and quality of life.
Not only did I have delicious pork nachos, I learned that Beaugard’s was ending their 25-year run as a Wilmington go-to restaurant.
Customers can have a final meal and share memories with owners Marty and Dianne Beaugard on May 31. The restaurant will open at 11:00 a.m.
At 1:00 p.m., a special ribbon tying ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce — a symbolic gesture representing the close of a successful business. Unlike a ribbon cutting, the tying reflects the lasting bonds formed and the remarkable conclusion of a chapter in local small business history.
“This isn’t a goodbye so much as a heartfelt thank-you,” said Marty. “We’re grateful for the support over the years and look forward to one last day of sharing stories, laughter, and BBQ.”
