Older Americans Month photo project asks: How do you live "Well Beyond 60?"
Each year, Ohio and the nation recognize May as Older Americans Month to celebrate our elders as vital members of society who continue to grow, thrive, and contribute. Ohio’s 2015 Older Americans month theme is "Well Beyond 60!" raising awareness of the many ways older adults can and are living longer, healthier, and more active lives.
To celebrate Older Americans Month this May, the Ohio Department of Aging is asking Ohioans of all ages to submit pictures that show how they or their loved ones are living "Well Beyond 60!" From now through May 15, Ohioans can visit the Ohio Department of Aging on social media to share photos and short video clips that show the many things older Ohioans can do to be healthier, avoid injury, keep chronic conditions in check and contribute to their communities.
How to contribute to the Older Americans Month Photo Project
From now until May 15:
- Facebook -- post pictures or selfies to Ohio Department of Aging's Facebook page
- Twitter or Instagram -- post photos and/or short video clips on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #WellBeyond60 and mentioning @OhioDeptOfAging
- U.S. Mail -- submit photos via mail to: Ohio Department of Aging, ATTN: Older Americans Month Photo Project, 50 W. Broad St./9th Fl., Columbus OH 43215-3363. Please note: photos cannot be returned.
The department reserves the right to use submitted images and videos in its online and print publications and outreach. Submissions must be received by May 15 to be considered for voting.
From May 18-22 Ohio Department of Aging's staff and followers on social media will vote to determine the top three photos. The top photos will be posted on the department's website. Also, the submitters of the top photos will be given the opportunity to be interviewed for a feature about their photos.
About Older Americans Month and "Well Beyond 60!"
Since 1963, people in towns and cities across the nation have used the month of May to celebrate the contributions of older Americans.
