COA joins community partners to support resource portal for veterans

Military veterans face many challenges during their transition from military to civilian life. In the Greater Cincinnati area, dozens of local organizations are teaming up to make sure finding and connecting to community resources isn’t one of them.
The Tristate Veterans Community Alliance has created an online portal that will serve as a clear path to support services for veterans and their families in our region. The Veteran and Family Resource Portal will help veterans access information and services via three levels of engagement:
- Self-Guided Directory: A user-friendly directory of services and resources for veterans
- Navigation Help: One-on-one navigation assistance from a fellow veteran
- Veterans In-Processing (VIP) and Welcome Center: full service coordination and mentoring to help veterans manage their financial, social, and personal reintegration needs
While traditional support services and agencies tend to intervene only when veterans encounter road blocks in their transition, the Veteran and Family Resource Portal will provide resources to veterans from the start, helping to avoid the traditional struggles of homelessness, financial distress, health issues, and unemployment.
Council on Aging (COA) is one of many community organizations working to support and promote the portal. Through the portal, partner agencies will coordinate information and referrals and provide a more streamlined process for veterans and families when they need to access services in the community. COA will also promote the portal on our website, www.help4seniors.org, and social media channels.
